LTP Allergy Follow-Up Study: Development of Allergy to New Plant Foods 10 Years Later

Introduction: Allergy to nonspecific lipid transfer protein (nsLTP) is the main cause of plant-food allergy in Spain. nsLTPs are widely distributed plant kingdom and have high cross-reactivity but extremely variable clinical expression. Little known about natural evolution this allergy, which complicates management. The objective study was assess development new foods nsLTP-sensitized patients 10 years after diagnosis. Methods: One hundred fifty-one showing specific IgE nsLTP determined by ISAC (Thermofisher) were included. After workup (i.e., anamnesis, skin test, challenge when needed), these divided into two groups: 113 allergic one or more food (74.5%) 38 not any (25.1%). Ten later, a telephone interview conducted check whether had developed additional reactions foods. Results: diagnosis, 35 (31%) plant-food-allergic sensitized reported new, previously tolerated foods, mainly Rosaceae/Prunoideae fruits nuts followed vegetables, Rosacea/Pomoideae fruits, legumes, cereals. Five out (13.2%) without experienced some food: fruit nuts, legumes. Conclusion: Patients other Rosaceae-Prunoideae nuts. This frequent among than those who never allergy.
